Observations that you take using the Liverpool Telescope are returned to you in the form of data files. You can process these data files to make nice images and carry out measurements.

If you do not have your own observations, or you want to look at a few different kinds of object, we have selected some example observations on this page. If you want to find more, then there are lots and lots in the Archive.

Observations of the Moon

These are some observations of the same part of the Moon observed at different times.

Nebulae

Image
A cloud in the shape of an elongated, stretched oval (pointing towards upper right and lower left corners) sits in the middle of the image against a black background with small dots of white stars. The cloud is various shades of grey and white.

A large, shapeless cloud in shades of grey with some white patches takes up most of the image. Around the edges, especially in the upper left, there is a black background visible with some white dots of stars.

Galaxies

Image
A large spiral galaxy in shades of grey. It has a bright, white centre, with dusty, grey arms swirling around it. At the centre-top is another bright, white circle with some light grey fuzziness around it. The background is black with small, white dots of stars.

A small, bright, white sphere is the centre. There is a thin, dark ring surrounding it, with some grey fuzziness between the ring and sphere. The object sits against a black background with some small, white dots of stars.

A thick, grey, fuzzy line stretches across the image from the upper left to the lower right. Within this, there is a brighter, white, circle in the middle, and a bumpy, dark, thinner line stretches the whole length too. The background is black with white dots of stars.
